“If you don’t have confidence, you’ll always find a way not to win.” - Carl Lewis

I was speaking with one of our members the other day about our kids and how important it is to for them to develop self confidence. Growing up I lacked self confidence and still do in certain areas in my life. I remember doubting myself in the classroom; not thinking I’m smart enough to pass without cheating. Or in sport, especially in high school, when I began making bad decisions, doing things to get approval from everybody else but my own. It cost me relationships, championships, and self-confidence.
As I got older and especially in college wrestling, I started analyzing the great athletes around me. Nothing fazed them, every match they could be winning or losing and their demeanor, attitude and presence remained the same. In defeat they showed no emotion, in victory they showed no emotion. They remained dedicated to the process of learning and growing. That’s when I realized that self confidence is developed through preparation. Developing a foundation of skills necessary to move you towards the goal gives you the confidence. In sport and business its breaking down every aspect of your game finding your strengths and weaknesses. Once those are identified you want your strengths to remain strong and bring your weaknesses up as much as you can. This gives you the self-confidence to get that final rep or make that sale in your business.
Once I took this process and began developing my own self confidence, I noticed my attitude and presence changed in sport and business. In sport, I told myself I will not let anyone ever see me tired or defeated in a competition. In business, I know what we are good at and we will always deliver a great product through coaching, community, and programming.
Every year we complete Hero Month, I see everyone’s confidence grow. Through our preparation leading up to this month, we can look at these workouts - develop a plan according to our strengths and weaknesses and get after it. Often times realizing that each of us are capable of greater things than what we originally thought. I hope you continue to gain your self confidence moving forward. It’s a constant process - keep moving forward.

Glen McLeroy

Just finished our Foundations program and will be joining our noon class. Glen’s fiancee is a die hard CrossFitter in Alabama and told him to come check out our gym. Being the good man Glen is, he walked in asked some questions and was in the Foundations program within two days.

CFJ Article of the Week: “Foundations” by Greg Glassman

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program. We have designed our program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.
The CrossFit Program was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks. Our athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple, diverse, and randomized physical challenges. This fitness is demanded of military and police personnel, firefighters, and many sports requiring total or complete physical prowess. CrossFit has proven effective in these arenas.
Aside from the breadth or totality of fitness the CrossFit Program seeks, our program is distinctive, if not unique, in its focus on maximizing neuroendocrine response, developing power, cross-training with multiple training modalities, constant training and practice with functional movements, and the development of successful diet strategies.
Our athletes are trained to bike, run, swim, and row at short, middle, and long distances guaranteeing exposure and competency in each of the three main metabolic pathways.

These Weeks Hero workouts:

  • Holleyman

  • Maxton

  • Jerry

  • Kutschbach

  • Weston

  • AdamBrown

**This week’s workouts are a good mixture of weightlifting and body weight movements. The weights are heavier this week than the previous two. Be conscious and deliberate in all your actions and stay in your 65-80% of the load for the workouts. Don’t max out on weight or reps. All the workouts are longer this week, and the heat is rising outside. Be sure to drink a lot of water (1 oz per pound of body weight) or a gallon of water daily.
