Change…..
The life cycle of a gym client is pretty straightforward: a person joins, stays for a while, and eventually leaves. It’s an inevitable part of the journey. However, during their time with us, relationships naturally develop. I get to know our clients, sharing in their life experiences—marriages, growing families, heartbreaks, celebrations, failures, and both scholarly and professional successes. Every individual who walks through our doors has a unique story, and we strive to be a positive chapter in that story.
As much as I aim to make a positive impact on our members' lives, I don’t think they realize the profound impact they have on me. When I hear someone talk about achieving a goal, hitting a personal record, celebrating weight loss, eating healthier, enjoying their time in the gym, signing up for a challenging race, bringing a friend to share in their journey, or gaining confidence through discipline and hard work, it deeply inspires me. Over the years, we have seen many wonderful people come and go, and recently, many have moved on to bigger and better things in their lives. Families grow, professional decisions are made, and I understand these changes.
One thing I hope all of our members—current, new, and old—know is that I am your biggest fan. I hope you succeed, and if you ever need anything, I’ll be here. Change is a good thing; it helps us grow and become better people.

“….When Charlie Edmundson began CrossFit in April 2015—overworked and stressed out in his job as an investment banker—he weighed nearly 200 lb. at 5 foot 11 and had a 37-inch waist. A few months into CrossFit and after cutting out beer and adopting a Paleo-style diet of meat and vegetables, Edmondson had dropped to a lean 175 lb. and taken three inches off his waist. His chronic knee pain, the result of multiple repairs to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee, also disappeared after just a couple of months of CrossFit.

“Things just clicked for me when I started CrossFit,” said Edmondson, 49. “I could squat below parallel again and regained mobility in my left knee, too.”
The transformation might have saved his life.
Had he not lost the weight, Edmondson said, he might never have discovered the lump in his neck, which turned out to be a serious form of invasive cancer: Stage 2 carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma, which is a cancer of the parotid, or salivary, gland. The 3-by-2-centimeter tumor would have been impossible to feel with the extra 25 lb. padding his frame.
In April 2016, Edmondson had surgery to remove the tumor and several lymph nodes in his neck. Some of the risks included a weakened immune system, a reduction of saliva production and partial or full paralysis on the right side of his face. And that was if the surgery went well, he explained.
“When I was first diagnosed, (the oncologist) put me at a 25 percent survival rate if—after surgery, radiation and chemotherapy—the cancer wasn’t eradicated,” he said. “I had one of the most aggressive tumors my doctor had seen in 20 years.”
During the procedure, surgeons discovered Edmondson’s cancer had spread to nine lymph nodes in his neck, so they removed the entire salivary gland—a total parotidectomy—and performed a partial neck dissection, a procedure in which the lymph nodes are removed. This ensured the cancer wouldn’t “leapfrog” down his neck to his lungs, Edmondson explained.
…“Mentally, it was like doing Fran: Even when it gets really hard, you’re forced to find something that keeps you moving forward,” he said. “Sometimes this was closing my eyes and singing a song. I wouldn’t have been able to find that strength without CrossFit.”
Jaime Pollard-Smith, one of Edmondson’s coaches, said she could see that strength inside him.”
