Bound News 9.11.2022

This week I was writing something about 9.11 and what it meant. But after 21 years, you have read and heard much better perspectives and stories than I could ever tell from the people who were there and witnessed the horrific tragedy. I deleted what I was originally going to write because at our travel baseball team meeting tonight with Coach and fellow Bound Gym member Tyson Kimm. He said something to the parents that I always forget.
You must get three hits out of 10 at-bats to be a great hitter. That's seven outs in 10 at-bats to be a professional ball player. There are varying degrees of intensity and skill from grade school to high school to college to minor and big leagues. But honestly, to be considered a great ball player, a .300 avg is the mark. Imagine going through your day thinking if I can only get 3 out of 10 choices correct. That would make for a fantastic day. Which would lead to a great season.
We all enter different seasons of life when it comes to happiness, challenges, depression, confidence, stress, etc. Imagine not feeling the need to not be 10 out of 10 but just 3 of 10 on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. For me, just thinking about that takes a burden off my shoulders.
So whether you are on a hot streak right now or in a slump and struggling. Remember, it just takes one day to get back on top, one good at-bat when your focus, timing, and execution will all come together and get you back on track. We always strive for greatness but remember, even the great ones have bad streaks. Stay focused, stay strong, stay courageous.

CrossFit Journal Article of the Week - Breaking the Nutrition Barrier

Jassim Zayed weighed 198 kg (436 lb.) when his thoughts turned toward the macabre.
“I kept imaging myself dead and people carrying me to my final resting place. And I kept imagining them complaining about this heavy person they needed to carry. … I didn’t want that to be my legacy,” he explains.
He had gastric-bypass surgery, but when he quickly regained his lost weight, he knew he needed to change his lifestyle.
He tried personal training but soon grew bored, so a friend recommended he try CrossFit. He joined CrossFit T23 soon after.
“I loved everything about it,” he says.
But even after two years of hard training, he still struggled to lose weight.
“I think I was compensating by saying, you know, ‘I work hard so I can eat whatever I want,’” he says, remembering when he knew he needed to dial in his nutrition.
He began working with Liam Holmes, a nutritionist who trains at CrossFit Shapesmiths.
With Holmes’ help, Zayed learned to follow the CrossFit prescription to eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.
The pounds began to fall away.
“Every time you eat, you have a chance to take yourself closer or further away from your goal,” Holmes says.
