Creating a Bulletproof Immune System through Exercise

J-Shape Curve Theory

This week Jimmy and Brandon sit down to talk about our Immune systems and how to exercise at the appropriate intensity and duration coupled with eating the correct amount of protein to give us a bulletproof immune system to fight off sickness and stay injury-free.

Below you can find an interesting study performed at Appalachian State University in the 1990s by Dr David Nieman, a professor at App State, who formulated the J-shaped model to describe the relationship between exercise intensity and the risk of acquiring upper respiratory tract infections (URTI). Very common in athletes, this is a form of illness that's caused by an infection of the upper respiratory tract. After analyzing many athletes (from many sports) scientists found that moderate exercise has the ability to improve immune function compared to sedentary people sitting on the sofa doing nothing.
