"Ignorance on Fire is better than knowledge on Ice...."
This week I sat down with Trevor Maloney on our podcast and he mentioned this quote towards the end of our conversation and I thought that was a great place to start this newsletter (check out the full Podcast HERE). Since Trevor mentioned this quote I've been thinking a lot about it and why it resonates with me so much. For most of my life, this is how I've approached almost every endeavor I've taken since high school. For those that know me. When I get excited about something I usually just do it - make mistakes, restructure my plan and implement it again and again. Sometimes my plans work, sometimes they fail. Whether it was my choice of schools (I applied to many but as soon as I received my first acceptance letter I took it); when I left to go try wrestling in college after two years off of any sports; when I chose to come back to Georgia to finish my education; my first job just fell into my lap. When I was fired from that job, I just decided to start a business with no idea of how to actually run a business, but I had a passion for coaching and helping others.
What I'm saying is when you have a passion or a goal, sometimes it's better to just start doing the thing you want more than planning and waiting for the perfect time to start. Trust me, you'll figure it out along the way.

*Study Finds That Adherence To Diet, Not Type Of Diet, More Important Factor For Losing Weight
- A comparison of four popular diet plans finds that the key to losing weight may not be which diet plan a person picks, but sticking with the plan that is chosen, according to a study in the January 5 issue of JAMA. The study also found that popular diets can be effective for modest weight loss and reducing several cardiac risk factors, but overall adherence rates were low.
April Challenge - Kirsch Method
- I hope many of you have participated in the Hang Challenge. I personally have seen a dramatic increase in overhead stability and a decrease in pain from the Kirsch Method. For many of you, maybe it was our fault for not emphasizing or prioritizing the implementation during the class sessions. But, I encourage all of you regardless of shoulder flexibility, strength, or pain levels to continue implementing this exercise into your weekly routines 3-5x a week. It only takes 3 minutes of your day and could relieve years of pain or immobility.
WORKOUTS THIS WEEK
There are two ways to approach this week's workouts. Originally, I had planned for this week to be deload week and focus on movement, recovery, and preparation for Hero Month beginning May 2nd. But, with the Age Group Qualifier workouts released and how awesome they look, I figure why not test some of these. So....you can "A" test yourself with these workouts and push your limits or "B" use these workouts to focus on the quality of movement and keep your heart rate at a steady level that allows you to continuously move methodically through the workouts. The 'A' approach is going to feel uncomfortable, while the 'B' approach should leave you feeling euphoric and accomplished :) choose your path wisely.
BPs List (what I'm reading, listening to, and thoughts)
- BluePrint, Build a Bulletproof Body for Extreme Adventure in 365 days. by Ross Edgley.
This book is full of interesting stories from Ross on how he rebuilt his body from swimming around Great Britain for 157 days. He had to gain strength in his sea legs (from not stepping foot on solid ground for nearly half a year) and overcome shoulder surgery following the swim. What I find the most interesting is that his plan is similar to how we approach our yearly schedule at Bound. *more details to come following hero month on the yearly cycle for the Bound program.
- I've been listening to a lot of Simon Sinek, who's a famous speaker and author, one book he wrote is "Start with your Why" HERE is a video "Start with your Why" where Simon goes in-depth on 'why' some companies or people are successful while others that are smarter, more qualified, have more resources may find success but not greatness.
